Engagement Photoshoot: Nailing Your Timeless Memories

Sharing with you the ultimate tips for nailing your engagement photoshoot experience! From stunning locations to wardrobe inspiration, make every moment count with our comprehensive guide.

An engagement photoshoot is a special session where a couple hires a photographer to capture images of them together before their wedding. It’s a chance for the couple to celebrate their love and excitement for their upcoming marriage in a relaxed setting. Additionally, these photos are typically used for announcements, invitations, or as keepsakes to cherish for years.

When preparing for your engagement session, there are many things you should think about. What should you wear? What location should you choose? But most importantly–how can you make this day extra special and enjoy your pre-wedding photoshoot? In this article, you will learn few tips that will create the day so unique and memorable for you and your fiancé.

Nine Best Tips To Nail Your Engagement Photoshoot

1. Connect with your fiancé before your session.

Sharing quality time with each other before your session will put you both at ease before your engagement session. You both will be in a better mood and get those dreamy, I can’t wait to marry you engagement photos.

2. What do you wear for your engagement photoshoot MATTERS?

There are a few things I can talk about here– the first being not to wear anything that is super loud or “trendy” for your engagement session. We all remember the teal and chevron era, right??? Haha, it’s not a good look for engagement photos! Instead opt for a more classic look and avoid bight and bold colors. When in doubt, neutrals work amazingly well. You can always consult with your photographer beforehand for help with your outfits.

Secondly, you want to be comfortable. Make sure you can be photographed at any angle and are comfortable with your outfit choice. Your confidence will shine through the camera! Also, make sure what you wear is your style. This will cause you to stick out like a sore thumb if you are uncomfortable in your chosen outfit.

3. Accessories are essential to your outfit.

It is equally important to accessorize your outfits. From hair accessories to necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and Yes!, even your fiancé’s shoes! Nothing will stand out more than a piece of your outfit that was not thought about. Try to put together a complete outfit for the two of you. Again, your photographer would be more than happy to assist in the accessorizing process!

4. Have your engagement photoshoot in a meaningful location.

Your photographer often wants you to choose your location for your engagement session. This is because they want you to pick a place meaningful to you as a couple. Maybe you went on many movie dates when you first started dating or met at a specific coffee shop or bookstore. These will make your photos even more meaningful to you.

5. Bring props to your engagement session.

BRING CHAMPAGNE! Champagne shots are such a great way to celebrate an engagement. And, sipping on some champagne for your engagement session…who wouldn’t do that?? But seriously, this brings so much life and joy to your engagement photos and makes the session even more fun!

6. Consider professional hair and makeup for your session.

Using a professional for your hair and makeup will make you feel comfortable and confident in your skin. We all know it’s better when the pros handle things! Think about that wash the hairstylist gives you versus the wash you can do in the shower…it’s just BETTER! This will also add the cherry to make your day and engagement session special.

7. Make a date out of it.

You are already getting dressed up and looking nice. Why not have some more fun after your engagement session? Go for a night on the town or a fancy dinner after your session. Y’all look hot, don’t waste it! Again, this will make this day so special for the two of you, and you will cherish it forever.

8. Let down your guard in front of the camera.

Instead of focusing on the camera pointed at your face, hey, hi, that’s me 🙂, concentrate on your other half. Crack jokes with one another. Kiss each other when you feel like kissing. Just go with the flow. Go in for that hug or kiss. I promise your photographer will not be opposed to all the emotion and connection you are showing by doing this.

9. Plan for poses and candid shots.

An engagement photoshoot can be lots of fun. I give my couples prompts and things to act out with a mixture of posed photos to get a nice variety. The prompts make the session even more fun. But arriving at your session ready for both will make things go smoothly since you aren’t expecting one or the other.

When in doubt, your photographer should always be a resource and a guide for you throughout your wedding planning journey. Don’t be afraid to ask them for their opinions or advice. It is part of our job
